About CBD

What is CBD?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol (Canna-bid-iol) and is one of over 100 compounds found in the hemp plant or cannabis sativa.

While we cannot and do not claim any specific medicinal benefits from CBD, We urge you to research the possible capabilities.

What CBD is not?

A common misconception is that because CBD comes from cannabis, "it will get you high". This is simply not true.

CBD is not psychoactive, which means it doesn’t affect the way that you think. The compound responsible for this in cannabis is THC, which is still classified as a Class B drug in the UK, making it illegal.

CBD, on the other hand, is perfectly legal.

How to Use CBD oil

Using CBD oils and products is safe (please look at the reverse of the packaging to understand what the correct dosage for you is).  There is a common misconception that CBD products get you high, however this is not the case and is false. CBD products are non psychoactive and most products contain zero THC.  Here is the Flawless guide on how to choose the best products, find the right type of product and correct dose for you.

It's always good to do some research on the company behind he product. Ideally, look at where the product is grown. Are they:

  • Specially bred cultivators, non GMO
  • High in CBD and low in THC (less than 0.2%)
  • Rich full spectrum or broad spectrum profiles
  • State of the art extraction and purification processes
  • Complete removal of naturally occurring trace amounts of THC, whilst leaving the intact full spectrum profile of non-psychoactive phytocannabinoids and synergistic compounds such as Cannabidiol (CBD), Cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabinol (CBN), Cannabichromene, (CBC).

Other ways we identify good CBD brands and products are as follows:

  • Does the product specify clearly the amount of CBD?
  • Are you able to see the lab reports and certificates of analysis?
  • Is the product certified and organic?
  • Has the CBD oil been extracted with CO2? This is known to be the best form of extraction as it separates THC and other volatile cannabinoids and terpenes from the cannabis plant.
  • Is the oil full spectrum i.e. rich on terpenes and other cannabinoids.  The more natural the product, the more beneficial it is for you.

What do the different strength and dosages mean?

If this is the first time you are trying out CBD, it may be better to start with 10mg twice a day. After 5-7 days, you can increase this to 20mg twice a day and see how this makes you feel. The oil can be taken 3-4 times per day but do not exceed the 200mg daily amount.

We have outlined an example of doses and strengths below.

Example 1:

Bottle size: 10 ml oil:

250mg CBD, which equates to 2.5% strength. This will normally provide 1.25mg per drop. This 10ml bottle will hold around 250 drops of CBD oil. Therefore, if you want to take 10mg of CBD per day, you need to take 8 drops from this bottle with this strength.

Bottle Size: 10ml oil:

500mg CBD which equates to 5% strength. This will normally provide 2.5mg per drop. This 10ml bottle will hold around 250 drops of oil. Therefore, if you want to take 10mg of CBD per day, you need to take 4 drops from this bottle with this strength.

Example 3:

30ml oil tincture and 500mg active CBD

This would equate to only 16.6mg per ml and hence 1.66% concentration. Because it’s a 30ml bottle, the amount of CBD is diluted in the oil which is 3 x more than the 10ml bottle. Therefore, you would need to take more in order to get the required dosage

Example 4:

30 ml oil tincture and 1500mg active CBD

This would equate to only 50mg per ml and hence 5% concentration. This would be the equivalent to a 10ml oil tincture with 500mg active CBD at 5%.

How quickly is CBD absorbed and how long does it take to feel the effects?

People use CBD in many different ways, from oil drops taken sublingually, capsules, vaping, edibles, topicals in creams and balms. Research has shown that vaping CBD offers the fastest means of CBD delivery to the body. It enters the bloodstream directly through the lungs and the majority of people feel the it within 5-10 minutes. Another way to feel the effects quickly is by taking it sublingually, under the tongue, with oil drops.

CBD Oil Benefits – The Endocannabinoid System.

What is CBD?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol, a naturally occurring and one of the most prominent chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. It is one of 100 + cannabinoids found in full spectrum hemp.

After many years of research, scientists have only now just begun to understand the importance of the Human Endocannabinoid Systems (HEcS). Research has revealed that HEcS is responsible for maintaining and controlling the body’s homeostasis through two receptors: CB1 and CB2.

  • Endocannabinoids: Endogenous-fatty-acid cannabinoids produced naturally in the body
  • Phytocannabinoids: concentrated in the oily resin of the buds and leaves of plants
  • Synthetic cannabinoids: manufactured by artificial means i.e. in a lab.

How can I take CBD?

CBD is quite easily absorbed by the body, which means there are a fair few methods to choose from when it comes to using it.

CBD can enter the body through the digestive system, with a little preparation. Some products, such as capsules, edibles, and beverages are prepared in such a way that the CBD they contain can be easily absorbed by your digestive tract. This makes it nice and simple to get your CBD dose.

Sublingual administration is a fancy medical term which means holding something under your tongue. Your tongue has a lot of blood vessels, which makes it easy for things held under your tongue to be absorbed into the bloodstream. Pure CBD oils, Tinctures, and Extracts can all be taken by placing a few drops under the tongue and holding it there for about 90 seconds before swallowing.

Some products containing CBD are designed to be applied directly to your skin. This way the CBD does not enter the bloodstream, but rather is absorbed by the skin itself wherever it is applied. This is perfect for localised applications. Various products exist, but the most common of this type are creams and lotions. Some companies also include it in everyday products including body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and moisturising rubs.

Last but certainly not least, CBD can be inhaled using a vaporiser. A vaporiser will heat the CBD oil or infused E-Liquid just enough to vaporise it, avoiding the hazardous byproducts of combusting. CBD taken this way enters the bloodstream directly via the lungs. Since it doesn’t have to make its way through your stomach or liver, it enters your system much faster than by other methods, and is by far the most efficient method of consuming CBD. Various CBD vapour products exist, from oil-based vaporiser systems to disposable pens, to E-Liquids which can be used in almost any E-Cig system.

Talking about CBD brings up a lot of terms that you may not have heard before, so here are some simple explanations to help if you get confused.

A helpful compound derived from the cannabis plant.

The raw, unprepared form of CBD. Can be taken by placing under the tongue for 90 seconds. Can also be used in preparing edible CBD products.

CBD Tincture

CBD dissolved in another liquid, often pure alcohol or MCT oil, which is derived from coconuts. These help to make CBD easier to absorb for the body. Tinctures are usually taken by placing under the tongue for 90 seconds.

CBD Isolate

An extremely pure, crystal form of CBD. Highly concentrated, this form of CBD is normally used in the preparation of other CBD products, and is not normally consumed on its own.

E Liquid

A liquid designed to be used in an E-Cig vaporizer. These liquids are made of Vegetable Glycerin, a neutral substance that can be vaporised and inhaled. E-Liquids are a useful method of ingesting various substances, often nicotine for those trying to stop smoking, but also CBD.

CBD Edible

A food or drink product that has been prepared with CBD. Eating or drinking these products administers CBD via your digestive system.

CBD Capsule

A pill-like product containing CBD, designed to be swallowed whole. Swallowing these products administers CBD via your digestive system.
